Silicon Metal (Si Metal), also referred to as industrial or crystalline silicon, is a high-purity form of silicon. Despite being a non-metal, it exhibits a metallic sheen. Silicon metal is characterized by its high melting point, excellent heat resistance, high electrical resistivity, and exceptional oxidation resistance. It is primarily utilized as an additive in non-ferrous alloys and serves as a fundamental raw material for numerous high-tech industries.
Application Areas of Silicon Metal
The global demand for silicon metal products is increasing. As a critical raw material at the pinnacle of the silicon-based new material industry, silicon metal is essential for the growth of industries such as aluminum alloys, organic silicon, and photovoltaics. The rapid advancement of global manufacturing has led to a steady increase in demand for silicon metal in downstream markets. This rising demand has fueled the continuous expansion of the silicon metal industry, resulting in increased production capacity and output.

Silicon metal is primarily manufactured through the carbothermic process. In this method, silicon dioxide and reducing agents like charcoal and petroleum coke are placed in a high-temperature electric furnace for smelting. Under intense heat, the silicon dioxide reacts with the reducing agents, resulting in the formation of silicon metal.
The silicon metal produced through this process typically has a purity of about 97% to 98%, containing various impurities. This grade of silicon metal is commonly used in the metallurgical industry. However, with advanced refining techniques, CG Metal can produce ultra-high-purity silicon metal products with a purity range of 99.7% to 99.8%, catering to the demands of high-tech industries.
